New prescriptive measure submissions

Do you want the IESO to consider a new measure for future inclusion in the Save on Energy Retrofit program?

Please complete the form below to submit a new measure for consideration to be added to the program.

Please complete the form fully with the best available information to ensure a detailed review of the energy-savings opportunity of the measure and to support any subsequent determination of an appropriate prescriptive incentive amount should the measure be accepted to be added to the program. Please submit completed forms to retrofit@ieso.ca.

Completed forms that were submitted by February 28, 2025, will be reviewed and considered for inclusion in the program update planned for Fall 2025. Forms submitted after that date will be considered for a future program update.

How submissions are evaluated

The evaluation of the submissions involves an in-depth, multi-stage review and approval process to ensure a measure addresses market needs and meets program requirements, including cost-effectiveness, and energy-efficiency policy objectives. As this process is highly detailed, the review can take several months to complete.

The IESO will be posting information on this webpage the first week of each month to provide updates on the status of the evaluation for measures that have been submitted for consideration.

New measure submission form review results

The IESO would like to thank you for your submissions. Each measure submitted for consideration to the Save on Energy Retrofit program is reviewed and screened for possible inclusion in the program. Measures are reviewed for expected energy savings and peak demand reduction, availability, market demand and suitability as a prescriptive measure.

The decisions indicated on the measures below are considered final and will not be reconsidered for the program unless new or updated information is provided.

Please note:  the charts below include measures that were previously submitted for consideration. Measures submitted after these dates will be included on this page once all screenings are complete. This page will be updated the first week of each month.

* Reminder: general lighting measures, including lighting measures that were previously submitted and accepted in the charts below, are no longer offered under the Retrofit program. Businesses can receive instant discounts on the purchase of qualified energy-efficiency lighting upgrades from participating distributors of the Instant Discounts program.

Measure Submitted Status Rationale

Hydronic HVAC pumps with permanent magnet motors, EMIS, and Staging Controls

Not accepted as a new prescriptive measure

Not suitable for prescriptive measure as the recommended measure involves multiple upgrades including IE5-compliant motors hydronic pumps, controls and EMIS. This measure can participate through the custom stream.

Not suitable for a prescriptive measure as connecting pump systems with an EMIS does not save electricity on its own.

Not suitable as a prescriptive measure as pump controls is an operational measure. This measure is better suited for other Save on Energy programs such as 'Energy Performance Program' and 'Existing Building Commissioning Program' which support operational savings.

Multi Pump Variable Flow Building Technology

Not accepted as a new prescriptive measure

Not suitable as a prescriptive measure as pump controls is an operational measure. This measure is better suited for other Save on Energy programs such as 'Energy Performance Program' and 'Existing Building Commissioning Program' which support operational savings.

Organic Rankine Cycle using medium-temperature industrial waste heat

Not accepted as a new prescriptive measure

Not suitable as a prescriptive measure as this measure includes multiple components such as generators, heat exchangers, and other auxiliary equipment. This measure is better suited for other Save on Energy programs such as the 'Industrial Energy Efficiency Program'.

Unitary Air-Source Heat Pump >63.3 tons

Not accepted as a new prescriptive measure

Air-source heat pumps as a prescriptive measure are limited to 760,000 btuh to align with EnergyStar and AHRI qualifying product lists. The IESO does not have sufficient information to estimate savings for equipment larger than 760,000 btuh as a prescriptive measure. These equipment can participate through the custom stream.
